Microsoft offered early adopters the first Windows 8 bits two weeks ago, and as expected, testers are coming across various issues with the operating system.

I said as expected because Windows Developer Preview is Windows 8 Build 8102 Milestone 3 (M3), a pre-Beta release for which bugs are inherent, as they would be for any product this early on in the development process.

It appears that some testers running Internet Explorer 10 Platform Preview 3 on Windows 8 Developer Preview are coming across issues with right-to-left input text.

Microsoft has confirmed the problem in Knowledge Base article 2614194. Here is what the software giant said:

“On a computer that is running the Windows Developer Preview (codenamed "Windows 8"), a text input element that should display right-to-left in Internet Explorer displays incorrectly. Instead of displaying right-to-left, the text is mirrored.”

This issue will only impact users whose languages require them to enter text from right to left instead of from left to right. Essentially, Windows 8 testers attempting to write in Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Urdu, Yiddish, etc. while using IE10 PP3.

The Redmond company is already offering a fix: “Microsoft has provided an update that resolves this issue, and it is available through Windows Update. To install update 2614194, visit the following Windows Update website,” Microsoft said.

Internet Explorer 10 Platform Preview 3 is included in Windows 8 Developer Preview, and Build 8102 M3 is the only way to get the latest test release of IE10.

According to Microsoft, a future Platform Preview Build of IE10 will also be offered to testers using Windows 7, but PP3 can only be run by those early adopters that are also testing the first public preview of Windows 8.

Just as a reminder, Windows 8 packs two flavors of IE10, one that’s essentially a Metro app, and the good old desktop variant of the browser.
