With an update from Microsoft

Microsoft has reacted to reports of problems associated with using Windows Media Center in Windows 7 in combination with ISDB tuners. ISDB is an acronym for Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting, a standard for digital television and digital radio. Although leveraged in various markets around the world, ISDB is most prevalent in Japan. It is Japanese users of its latest iteration of the Windows client that Microsoft is focusing on with an update for Windows Media Center in Windows 7.

“Install this update to improve the Windows 7 Media Center experience when you are using an ISDB tuner. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer. ISDB is a Japanese standard for digital television and for digital radio,” Microsoft informed.

The fact that the Redmond company has produced a fully-fledged update for ISDB tuner issues instead of offering a hotfix indicates that the problems were not limited to merely a few isolated cases. There are two flavors of the update available via the Microsoft Download Center, tailored to 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) Windows 7. Customers will be able to download and implement the update in accordance with the Windows 7 copy they are running straight from Microsoft.

Of course, the refresh is not available for all Windows 7 editions. Having rethought the Windows 7 Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) strategy, Microsoft provides Windows Media Center only in Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate and Enterprise editions of the operating system. This because the software giant made the decision that Windows 7 SKUs would be superseding one another, unlike Windows Vista which did not offer Windows Media Center to Business users. KB975053 update for Windows 7 is available for all editions of the OS featuring Windows Media Center.
