Windows 7 users that have been experiencing issues with hardware devices connected to their PCs, can now leverage an automated solution from Microsoft designed to fix just such problems.

Customers need to head over to the “Hardware devices are not working or are not detected in Windows” page on Microsoft Support and access a free Fix It which will attempt to automatically identify and correct any glitches they might have come across.

The Fix It solution works with Windows 7 as well as previous releases of the Windows operating system.

According to Microsoft, the troubleshooter will “automatically diagnose and repair problems with devices when the device manager does not detect your hardware, audio, USB, or other devices, or when your devices are disabled or not working.”

This particular Fix It is provided more for average users which need help troubleshooting device connectivity problems, and less for advanced customers capable of fixing such issues themselves, manually.

For example, the Fix It solution, will help users deal with any problems generating error messages such as:

“- Your <Device Name> is currently disabled or turned off in Windows

- Your <Device Name> has a driver problem and needs to be reinstalled

- Windows has detected a problem with your <Device Name>, it is not working properly

- There is no driver installed for your <Device Name>.”

In addition, the software giant revealed that the automated troubleshooter is equipped to handle such problems as:

“- When you install a hardware device, it is not detected

- Determine if your audio device is plugged in

- Driver updates aren't automatically installed by Windows Update.”

Even customers that think they might have an issue should run this Fix It, since it features a troubleshooting mode only. As such the tool is great for diagnosing a Windows machine and discovering potential problems without actually applying any fixes unless specified otherwise by the user.
