Customers running Windows can come across problems in scenarios involving the deployment or removal of programs, Microsoft has acknowledged.

This can impact Windows 7 users, as well as those leveraging older releases of the operating system.

The Redmond company is already offering a solution designed to fix issues that negatively impact processes such as installing and uninstalling applications.

The Fix It troubleshooter provided by the software giant will automatically resolve a range of glitches, Microsoft promised.

It “automatically diagnoses problems that can prevent installing and uninstalling programs on your computer. Assists with programs that will not uninstall correctly and programs blocking installation of new program installations,” the company said.

This particular Fix It troubleshooter can be downloaded free of charge from the Microsoft Help and Support website.

Microsoft recommends that the automated fix only be deployed by those users that have experienced issues with uninstalling or installing software on Windows 7 or its predecessors, Windows Vista and Windows XP.

However, the Fix It troubleshooter offers a diagnostics mode designed to scan machines for potential issues. As such, customers can simply run a scan and evaluate their Windows PC for any problems without having to deploy the fixes if they’re not actually required.

Microsoft provided a list with all the issues that the automated Fix It troubleshooter is designed to deal with, provided that the underlying problems are identified:

“Removes bad registry key on 64 bit operating systems.

[It fixes] Windows registry keys that control the upgrade (patching) data that become corrupted.

Resolves problems that prevent new programs from being installed.

Resolves problems that prevent programs from being completely uninstalled and blocking new installations and updates.

Use this troubleshooter for an uninstall only if the program fails to uninstall using the windows add/remove programs feature.”
