Microsoft has confirmed the existence of some issues related to Internet Explorer 9 RTW and Cannon printers, which can prevent users from printing a webpage. The problem impacts IE9 RTW running on all supported operating systems, namely, Windows Vista SP2, Windows Server 2008 SP2, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

According to the software giant, the glitch involves failed print jobs of a webpage opened in IE9.

This happens “when you have a certain Canon printer driver installed (including drivers for imageRUNNER, imageCLASS, imagePRESS, Satera, i-SENSYS, and LASER SHOT printers),” Microsoft stated.

The fail print job will be accompanied by an error message, which the Redmond company says it could resemble something in the lines of:

“Error pop-up: Script Error - An error has occurred in the script on this page.

“Error pop-up: Message from webpage - There was an internal error, and Internet Explorer is unable to print this document.”

Microsoft has already identified the cause for this problem, with the software giant detailing it in KB 2522422:

“Internet Explorer 9 applies the XPS Print API for print jobs. This issue may occur when you configure the Canon printer to print multiple pages on one sheet of paper. For example, you click 2 on 1 in the Page Layout list when you try to print the webpage.

“This issue may occur when you use other applications that apply the XPS Print API for print jobs,” the company explained.

Fortunately, Microsoft already has a fix available for download for end users impacted by the issue described above.
