Magic plasticine turns into rubber, protects your fraying cable

If you’ve found your way to this article through a Google search, chances are you’re in desperate need of a solution for your fraying iPhone/MacBook charger cable.

Am I right? Well, I have some insanely great news for you! Not only do you not have to go out and spend a small fortune on a new charger, but you can actually order this plasticine-of-sorts and fix your busted cables at home. With your own hands.

For just £11.00 (€13.27 / $18.18) plus a small shipping fee, you can have Sugru ship 8 foil-wrapped pieces of this cool material, “ready for 8 fixing sessions around the house, car, factory floor or just about anywhere really.” That’s right, it’s not just for cables.

According to its creators, it’s “a new self-setting rubber for fixing, modifying and improving your stuff.” The only thing I don’t get is why it’s called “Sugru.” Sounds like something out of a Japanese cartoon.

Oh, one more thing before I go. You need to realize that your broken cable will not be magically repaired back into mint condition only by using Sugru. Before you place your order, make sure the cable is still operational. If it's not, you'd better go to your local Apple store for a replacement.

Also, you'll want to ensure that the polarities (+ -) are not touching one another when you apply the material. You could theoretically use smaller bits of Sugru (if additional insulation is needed) before you apply the final layer. Happy repairing!
