The great thing about the web, at far as the theory goes, is that it's so open and "free," anyone can join, anyone can contribute.

True to that, there are millions upon millions of websites out there, large and small. But the fact is, the web is much more local than you'd think, just five websites account for some 20 percent of all the search result clicks, according to Experian Hitwise numbers.

To prove that point, you should be able to guess those websites, or at least three of them.

Unsurprisingly, they are, in order, Facebook, with 8.48 percent of clicks, YouTube, with 5.55 percent, Yahoo with 2.63 percent, Wikipedia with 2.01 percent and Amazon with 1.40 percent.

Note that the numbers are for the US and for the fourth quarter of 2012. The global numbers probably wouldn't include Yahoo in the top five, but should be fairly similar otherwise.

You may be surprised to see that Google isn't in the top five, but, then again, you're using Google to search for any of these sites in the first place. And yes, the numbers are for all search engines, Google, Bing, Yahoo and so on.
