Summer is officially over, so what better way is there for moviegoers to prepare for fall than by learning which are the most promising releases of the season. E! Online delivers.

Though most major movie studios focus on the summer and the winter holiday season to bring their most hyped productions to audiences, that’s not to say autumn is completely event-less from this perspective.

Far from it, actually, as the top 5 hottest movies that will premiere in the fall of 2010 can confirm.

“In the coming weeks we’ll get Halloween scarefests (Paranormal Activity 2, Saw 3D, Let Me In), Oscar bait (Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, the Clint Eastwood-and Matt Damon-powered Hereafter), comedies (Due Date) and family fare (Megamind, Secretariat),” E! notes.

Of the lot, the first movie in the top audiences shouldn’t miss is “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps,” coming to bring new meaning to power and greed via an all-stellar cast under the skillful direction of Oliver Stone.

The film, a sequel to the original '80s “Wall Street,” stars Michael Douglas, Shia LaBeouf, Carey Mulligan and Josh Brolin, and arrives in theaters this Friday.

Also this Friday drops Ryan Reynolds’ first role outside action movies and rom-coms, with the drama “Buried,” which sees him as a terrorist target buried alive in a coffin with nothing else but a cell phone.

“In Buried, the future Green Lantern plays an American contractor kidnapped in Iraq who wakes up to find himself six feet under in a pine box, his only access to the outside world a cell phone (with a low battery, natch) and little time to be rescued before he runs out of air. The film scored big with Sundance audiences and is primed to be the sleeper of the season,” E! points out.

The third movie audiences should see this season is the much-hyped “The Social Network,” based on the true story of the co-founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg.

The film is directed by David Fincher on a script by Aaron Sorkin (“West Wing”), and stars some of the hottest young actors of the moment, like Jesse Eisenberg (“Zombieland”), Andrew Garfield (the new Spider-Man) and Justin Timberlake (who probably doesn’t need an introduction any more).

“What do you get when you mix together Road Trip, The Hangover and John Hughes’ ‘80s classic Planes Trains & Automobiles? Lots of male bonding and a lot of laughs,” E! says of yet another highly anticipated release, “Due Date.”

The comedy stars Robert Downey Jr., Zach Galifanakis and Jamie Foxx, with Todd Phillips at the helm – and it’s out on November 5.

Last but not least is the movie that is already getting critics saying James Franco is in for an Oscar win in the ceremony that will take place early in 2011.

“127 Hours: Danny Boyle follows up his Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire with this stomach-churning drama based on the miraculous tale of mountain climber Aron Ralston who finds his arm pinned underneath a boulder for five days,” E! says.

“127 Hours” also drops in US theaters on November 5. So, which of the above are YOU going to see?
