Google's mail technology has millions of fans in every corner of the world but this doesn't necessarily mean that all of them use the service at full power taking advantage of all its features. Last week, the Gmail team working at the Googleplex published an interesting blog post revealing some
hidden tricks which might help the consumers improve the functionality of the service. Today, Bill Kee, Associate Product Marketing Manager, wrote five more tricks, with the same goal as the previous one. First of all, the Google employee underlines the functionality of the smart links published on the right of the screen when reading a message. If you have never used them, you should because they allow you to do basic Gmail actions in a matter of seconds.
"Gmail also recognizes email text that refers to an event (e.g., 'dinner tomorrow at 8pm'), and will give you a link to add it to your calendar. It'll even pick up on package tracking numbers from UPS and link you directly to the tracking page, so you don't have to copy and paste the number," Bill Kee wrote.
Don't forget about the conversation update notification that informs you when new messages arrived. This is very useful especially when you type large messages that might be sent while you wrote the message. In addition, if you have a huge database of messages, you can use the search capabilities implemented in Gmail, obviously based on the power of Google Search, in order to find a conversation very quickly.
The offline chat is also one of the most useful functions introduced in Gmail because you can easily read the messages sent to your account while you were offline straight from the mail's interface. The last tip refers to the 'Add event info' button that allows you to configure new entries in your calendar. "When you send the email, the event details will be added to your Google Calendar, and Gmail will send an invitation to the email recipients to add it to their calendars as well."
