Five men were arrested and charged with forgery in South Africa on Monday after local police found a large amount of counterfeit money in a car.

According to Times Live, police in Roodepoort, west of Johannesburg, found over 90,000 counterfeit US dollars (the equivalent of €65,600) stuffed in bags in a Volkswagen Polo vehicle. Officers apprehended three men after they received a tip-off that the suspects were transporting counterfeit money in their car.

The suspected criminals were arrested along Ontdekkers road in Roodepoort, just before 5 p.m., on May 19, police reports.

“When officers searched the white Polo they were in, they found money in bags, and when counted at the police station it amounted to 90,000 counterfeit US dollars,” Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar says.

Mr. Minnaar adds that two more men were arrested in a house in Alexandra township in connection with the crime.

The three suspects arrested in Roodepoort will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court soon, while the other two will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate's Court, all on charges of forgery.

This is the second story involving fake bills this week, as yesterday we also found out that a Florida man was arrested after he attempted to pay a trespassing fine using counterfeit $20 bills.
