The folks over at Fitbit have been working hard on their Windows Phone application and they have recently released a new version that adds lots of new features and improvements.

Before going into details, you should know that developers have yet to add support for notifications and alerts for Windows Phone handsets.

Now about the latest update developers have just released in the Windows Phone Store, one of the new features added is Surge Run. With this new feature users will be able to see maps of their GPS tracked activities.

But that's not the only new feature that was implemented into the newest version of Fitbit. Windows Phone users will now be able to add friends from Facebook or from email thanks to the new feature called Friend Finder.

Devs have reduced the install size of the app by half

Starting this version of Fitbit, the application will have a reduced install size, as developers have managed to cut the size of the app almost in half.

Furthermore, the new custom Heart Rate Zones will allow uses to create custom Heart Rate zones for their Charge HR and Surge. The update also adds something called Exercise Heart Rate, which makes it possible for the Heart Rate to appear for all users' tracked exercises.

Fitbit developers have also introduced some new tooltips that will help get users familiar with the application much faster. Among the enhancements Fitbit has brought to their Windows Phone application, they have mentioned improved setup flows.

The usual under-the-hood miscellaneous bug fixes and improvements have also been added, but details on these haven't been shared.

In case you don't have the application installed yet, you can now download Fitbit for Windows Phone for free via Windows Phone Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Windows Phone 8.1.
