Fitbit developers confirmed last month that they were working to bring the popular application to Windows Phone 8.1 platform, but no specific details on when the app could arrive were shared at that time.

The developers’ statement was short and clear, “Fitbit is developing an application for Windows Phone 8.1. Thank you for all your feedback and support,” but did not offer any insights on when users could expect it.

Well, it appears that it didn’t take that long for the creators of Fitbit to bring their application to Windows Phone 8.1 devices. It’s been less than two months since the team confirmed they would release the Windows Phone 8.1 application, and now users can download it via Windows Phone Store.

Keep in mind that this isn’t a beta version, and from all the ratings it gathered since its release on Windows Phone Store, it does seem to be free of bugs and other critical issues.

For those who have never used Fitbit on their mobile devices, this application allows you to pair a Fitbit device, like Flex or Zip, and track your fitness activity.

Basically, the application helps users log the number of steps they take, the distance they travel and the number of calories they expend per day. In addition to cardio, users can also track other exercises, including circuit training, cycling and dancing.

Thanks to Windows Phone 8.1, users will now be able to set Fitbit as a Live Tile, which means a quick glance at the home screen of a Lumia device or other compatible smartphone will show you your daily step count in real time.

Additionally, Windows Phone users who own a Fitbit Force, Fles, One or Ultra device will also be able to monitor the number of hours and quality of their sleep to see if they get the requisite 40 winks.

According to developers, the food database has been recently enhanced to include more than 350,000 foods with accurate nutritional data that will help users log the number of calories.

Fitbit for Windows Phone also comes with some motivational social tools, such as notifications and badges, which are meant to help users reach target goals much easier.

Some social features have been implemented as well, so Fitbit users will be given the opportunity to challenge friends and family with leaderboards, direct messages, cheers and taunts.

You can now download Fitbit for Windows Phone for free via Windows Phone Store. Keep in mind that the application is only compatible with devices powered by Windows Phone 8.1 and up.
