Fitbit extends its wearable portfolio with three new models

If you were hungry for new wearables on the market, Fitbit has just introduced three freshly squeezed products coming in the form of the Charge, Charge HR and Surge.

The interesting thing is that one of these products is being touted as the company’s “super watch” and represents a blend between a fitness tracker and a smartwatch.

Since Apple announced its much anticipated Watch, which is expected to send wearables’ popularity levels through the roof, other players in the industry are under a lot of pressure to perform.

So Fitbit has launched three new products, hoping to get customers’ minds off the Watch and the Android Wear alike.

Fitbit Charge

This is the first wearable from the brand new Fitbit lineup. It’s basically the next-gen Fitbit Force (yes, you recall correctly, it got pulled from the shelves for causing nasty rashes).

The little device is capable of tracking activity and sleep cycles by counting how many steps you've taken, calories burned, floors climbed and the amount of good hours of sleep you put in (it tracks nightly movements).

Unlike its predecessor, the Fitbit Charge has a little OLED display which shows notifications over Bluetooth LE. The new exercise mode will deliver workout summaries immediately after a workout right there on the screen.

The company says the Charge can last up to ten days on a single charge. Expect to see it arrive in retail for $130 / €102 sometimes this year.

Fitbit Charge HR

The Charge HR is very similar to the Charge we outlined above. However, the wearable brings something extra in terms of functionalities by adding continuous heart rate monitoring so users can have a better overview of daily caloric intake/burn and outcome of workouts.

It also has a relatively different design featuring a watch-like clasp. It’s also supposed to last only five days instead of ten. You can get IT for $150 / €118, but it should arrive in retail somewhere in 2015.

Fitbit Surge

Last but not least, the most expensive product of the lineup, which is dubbed a “super watch.” The Surge acts as a fitness tracker bundling GPS and a heart rate monitor, but it’s also capable of relaying notifications for texts and calls.

Furthermore, it supports different workout modes, like runs or weight training. It’s also supposed to last up to seven days on a single charge.

As we mentioned above, it’s the most expensive of the three so you’ll have to pay $250 / €196. The smartwatch/fitness band combo will supposedly arrive sometime in 2015.
