Despite recalling some of its Force products, Fitbit is doing great

Fitbit’s Force isn't exactly a complete success story as the company had to pull the wearable from sale back in February, because some customers had been complaining of a pesky skin irritation caused by the band.

Nevertheless, Fitbit seems to be killing it in terms of sales. A new analyst report provided by Canalys shows 2.7 million wearables have been shipped in Q1 2014 and Fitbit accounted for a whopping 50%.

While recent information claimed Samsung dominates the smartwatch market in Q1 2014, Fitbit is doing the same in the wearable category.

So taking into account the recall, how are the results even possible? Canalys says the pulling back affected only the initial batch of Force bands for markets in the US and Canada.

The numbers also show another basic wearable, the Jawbone UP24 which was launched back in late 2013 is quickly gaining grounds and is likely to catch up with Fitbit at some moment in time.

Canalys divides wearables into two main categories: the first one is the so-called basic fitness bands, while the second is smart bands, where the smartwatches might belong.

According to the information provided by the firm, Samsung is not holding the top position, with only 23% share, while Sony comes in at number two with 29% and Pebble takes the top position with 35%. This goes against the report provided by Strategy Analytics that proclaimed Sammy as top dog with 71% smartwatch marketshare.
