Another fit, “no excuses” mother is coming under serious fire online after posting a photo of her toned abs, telling other women and mothers that they too have no excuses for not looking this way. Her name is Abby Pell, she’s 33 years old and is from East Sussex, UK, and she is positively ripped.

As it so happens, Pell is also a nutritionist expert and a fitness fanatic / model. She runs her own nutrition business and hits the gym 6 days a week – but she insists she wasn’t trying to fat-shame anyone with her photo and her message

“No excuses”

Pell is the second woman to draw this kind of ire online: the first one to do so was Maria Kang, who, in 2013, posted a photo of herself in workout gear and her 3 kids, with her abs on full display and the caption “What’s your excuse?

Now, Pell is saying “I’ve got a kid, a six pack and no excuse,” as the photo attached to this article can confirm.

The reason why both these moms have managed to offend millions of young mothers from all over the world isn’t that they look this good or even their smugness about it, but rather their not-so-subtle hint that whoever doesn’t look like them must be using their kid as an excuse, or any other excuse not to look the same.

The fact that they’re both working in the fitness industry is even more aggravating, moms believe, because looking good is part of their job requirements so it’s unfair to compare young moms with other jobs to them.

Inspirational, not controversial

Pell is speaking out on the controversy and the criticism she’s been getting online, including how she’s using her child to promote her brand, telling the Mirror that all she aimed to do with the photo was inspire other women to get fit, not to fat-shame them into a corner.

She explains that she struggled with her weight after she gave birth, trying several diets and yo-yo-ing for some time. This and the frustration she felt at always depriving / starving herself pushed her to try weight training to burn extra calories – and she’s been thriving ever since.

“Having a child is not a valid reason for being out of shape. Everybody can make excuses. I want to show that this figure is achievable. It doesn't matter if you're overweight, if you have a busy lifestyle and kids to look after – if you want to do it then there's always a way,” she says.

She suggests that all those who are leaving nasty comments on her photos are either jealous or profoundly unhappy with the way they look, in which case, the problem is theirs, not hers.

“Some people want to be able to make excuses and don't like it when an alternative body type is put in their face. Using a child as an excuse is absolute rubbish in my opinion,” she adds.
