Redmond-based software giant Microsoft announced officially during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona its latest mobile operating system, the Windows Phone 7 OS, stating that handsets running under the platform would arrive on the market sometime before the holiday season 2010. Yet, now we have the chance to take a look at one of the first such phones, which comes from LG. The device was unveiled by Microsoft's Aaron Woodman and is only a pre-production prototype, but it is the first handset we can look at knowing for sure that it should land on the market with the new OS on board.

South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics was already known to be among the first OEMs to launch handsets powered by Microsoft's new Windows Phone 7 OS, and the pre-production prototype unveiled by Woodman at The Engadget Show shows that the company is indeed moving forth with these plans. There are no details available on when the new mobile phone will actually hit the shelves, but the previous rumors on the matter suggested LG might launch a Windows Phone 7 Series device sometime in the September-November time frame, and this could be that handset.

What LG's Windows Phone 7 Series pre-production prototype comes around with includes a side-sliding QWERTY keyboard, coupled with the back, home, and search buttons all devices powered by Windows Phone 7 OS will sport on the front, and with dedicated hardware camera, volume, and power buttons on the side. At the same time, the phone is also said to include a 5-megapixel photo snapper with flash, and a headphone jack, while being a little thicker than the iPhone, but no other details on it are available for the moment.

The just unveiled Windows Phone 7 Series handset from LG comes with a QWERTY keyboard, which means that it is a device built in accordance with the Windows Phone 7 Chassis 2, the second chassis from a series of three Microsoft reportedly put in place. LG might also come to the market with phones that will be built in accordance with other chassis specs, though nothing is official at the moment. Take a look at the photos and video below to make an idea of the device that was just unveiled to the world, and keep an eye on this space for more info on the matter.
