Canonica is continuously working on Ubuntu Touch

Canonical has just published a fresh development version for Ubuntu Touch that's using a Vivid base, and the devs have started to push new features updated for that branch.

The current Ubuntu Touch RTM 14.09 branch is coming to an end, and the developers are moving to a different base for Ubuntu Touch. The development branch has been updated after a long time, but this is actually the second update in the series. Users of the current Ubuntu Touch OS won't have to do anything extra. As soon as this new version is RTM-worthy, it will be available through the normal channels.

It's also worth pointing out that the development version of Ubuntu Touch is not terribly different from the current stable RTM branch, so unless you are a developer or extremely curious, you don't really need to make any changes. Also, it's not a stable branch, and you could end up with many problems that haven't been fixed just yet.

Ubuntu Touch development is not stopping

Canonical now has a phone out there running Ubuntu Touch that can be bought by anyone in the European Union, the Bq Aquaris e4.5. It's a big deal, and it will expose the operating system to many more users, which in turn should greatly improve the quality of the OS through feedback.

"We have a few nice news items today. First of all, we *finally* promoted a new image to the devel channel. The latest devel-proposed image (aka vivid-proposed) passed sanity on most of our supported platforms and is in overall much better than the very very old last devel image (which btw. was released during the very beginning of the vivid series). We will now essentially try promoting more images there so that it can be a real 'development channel'. Enjoy!" said  Łukasz 'sil2100' Zemczak on the official mailing list.

As it stands right now, Ubuntu Touch can be installed on Nexus 4 and Bq Aquaris e4.5.
