Ubuntu-powered smartphones should be available as early as October this year, or at least this is what Mark Shuttleworth says.

Ubuntu Phone OS made its debut in early January and the first estimates of its actual arrival on the market was 2014.

In a conversation with Mark Shuttleworth, Michael Hickins from Wall Street Journal has revealed that the Canonical's plans for Ubuntu Phone are more ambitious than previously thought.

Canonical's founder has said that the first devices running their new OS will be arriving in October, although he didn't want to mention any hardware partners or network carriers.

It was also revealed that developers would get early access to the operating system by the end of February, so they can start working on native applications that can replace the current webapps.
