Ryan Gosling is one of the hottest actors in showbiz right now, but his directorial debut, “Lost River,” didn’t exactly get off to a great start. The film opened at the Cannes Film Festival last year and was widely panned and mocked, but it’s still getting a limited release in digital format.

This, despite the fact that Warner Bros. picked it up for domestic distribution, but at the last moment, pulled the plug on the theatrical release and opted to have it out directly on DVD.

The film will still see limited release in Europe, though, so you’re in luck if you’re from here and it comes to a theater near you. Look for it starting April 10.

To promote it, Warners has released the first official trailer for it, which confirms what critics out of Cannes were saying: “Lost River” is a very beautiful looking film. Sadly, they also claim that it sacrifices style for substance to the point where it becomes painful to sit through it, but we can’t possibly tell if that’s accurate from this preview.

Speaking of which, you will find it embedded below.

“Lost River” is a fantasy thriller set in the future, “a dark fairy tale about love, family and the fight for survival in the face of danger,” as Warners says, and stars Christina Hendricks, Eva Mendes, Matt Smith, Saoirse Ronan and Iain De Caestecker.
