First Trailer for ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ Is Here

With only days to go until the first official trailer for the latest installment in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise drops in theaters in 3D with “Tron: Legacy,” fans can check it out in 2D, as it has just been released online.

It’s no longer news by now that “On Stranger Tides” marks a departure from previous “Pirates” movies in that it no longer stars Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom, and has been shot entirely in 3D and will be released as such.

However, Disney was confident enough to make the film with just Johnny Depp as the lead – together with some old and new collaborators, like Geoffrey Rush, Keith Richards, Ian McShane and Penelope Cruz.

Judging by the first trailer, which has ended up online hours ago, Disney wasn’t wrong in gambling on Depp and the “Pirates” franchise, as Entertainment Weekly also points out.

The trailer kicks off with an introduction by Cpt. Sparrow himself, sitting at a table with a bottle of rum and assuring viewers that, even if he were really about to embark on a journey for the Fountain of Youth, they wouldn’t want to accompany him there.

The actual trailer then begins, proving that, if anything, that’s precisely what viewers want to do.

“Considering this is just a teaser, Disney has stuffed it with a surprising number of goodies to keep fans satisfied as they wait the next six months for the movie’s release,” EW says.

“The usual staples we’ve come to expect from the franchise are firmly in place: Exotic locales, Captain Jack Sparrow’s boozy banter, Geoffrey Rush’s gravelly-voiced Barbossa, a quest for a precious prize (this time, the fabled Fountain of Youth), and much buckling of swash,” the e-zine mentions.

“But the trailer also offers glimpses of some fresh additions to the series — most notably, Penelope Cruz as Sparrow’s saucy love interest, and Ian McShane, clad in roadie-for-Motörhead black leather, as Sparrow’s new nemesis, the pirate Blackbeard,” says EW.

And there’s even more: explosions, chases and deadly creatures like mermaids and zombies. In other words, though just a teaser, this video has it all, is the perfect recipe for an excellent action movie.
