The film is inspired by true events and has the two actors playing HIV patients in the early days of the disease.
In 1985, Ron Woodroof was diagnosed with HIV and told he only had 30 days to live. Determined to do anything in his power to fight the disease, he travels to Mexico (and then to other countries), from where he brings drugs not approved by the FDA but which actually return concrete results.
Back home, he establishes a “buyers club,” offering other sufferers access to his supply of (at the time illegal) medication.
