The sequel to the 2011 film is set after the events in “The Avengers,” with Thor (Chris Hemsworth) taking Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) to Asgard for her own safety, while he “battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms,” and restore order.
“An ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all,” a brief synopsis of the film says.
Some of this drama is included in the first official look at the film: Jane’s arrival to Asgar, the danger she’s in and how Thor turns to brother / former archrival Loki for help.
All in all, it’s a pretty neat teaser to kick off what will certainly be an exhaustive promotional campaign, one I can hardly wait for.
