OLED TVs are rare, and they are very expensive too. That's why it took so long to adjust the technology for the 4K resolution, 3840 x 2160 pixels.

It's finally happened though. After months and months of work, LG has introduced the 65EC9700 OLED television set.

It is a 65-inch display with a price of 12 million South Korea won, which is about $11,700 / €8,331. Not that I actually expect exchange rates to pan out. More likely, the EU price will be of €11,700.

I suppose we'll find out next week, when the product goes on sale in Europe and North America. Right now, it's only up for order in LG's home market.

In addition to the 65-inch 65EC9700 4K TV, LG has also launched the 77-inch 77EG9700. Both newcomers have curved panels and leaf-shaped stands.

Unfortunately, the 77-inch TV has not been made available yet, and it's unclear when that will change, or what price the thing will sport. It's clear though that the aspect ratio is 21:9 instead of 16:9, since the display is wider. I'm not exactly sure what resolution it has because of that.

LG believes that OLED is a “bona fide game changer,” but I'll wait and see for myself, since I've heard those words before.
