Since AMD is just a short while away from releasing its HD 6000 series of graphics adapters, the web is, of course, on the lookout for any leaks regarding them, and it seems that one has finally provided a photo of the HD 6870.

As some end-users may know, Advanced Micro Devices has been preparing the stage for the arrival of its Radeon HD 6000 series of video cards.

This series will act as a deterrent to NVIDIA's Fermi-based 400 series which has yet to cover the entire market segment.

As one would expect, the high-end HD 6000 model bears the name of HD 6870 and it seems that the latest leak regarding it managed to provide an actual photo.

What said photo does is reveal thee existence of two DVI outputs, a HDMi connector and two mini DisplayPort 1.2.

What this means is that the board will actually be able to handle five monitors at the same time once it finally comes out.

The full specification set is not entirely known, since AMD understandably intends to keep it as shrouded in mystery as it can until the official launch.

Still, the reports unearthed so far managed to find that the board boasts 1GB of GDDR5 VRAM and the third-generation UVD (unified Video Decoder).

There is also mention of the AMD HD3D technology (for 3D gaming) and support for CrossFireX and Eyefinity.

Of course, all of these assets revolve around the Bartx (XT) graphics processing unit, based on the 40nm manufacturing process technology.

The official launch of the AMD HD 6000 series will take place later this month, at which point the market will see just how they compare to NVIDIA's Fermi products.

The latter should also finish providing the market, even the entry-level segment, with 400 series boards soon enough.
