Zac Efron is definitely moving away from his Disney-made image, into a territory where he wants to be taken seriously. “The Paperboy,” his upcoming film, should help him do just that.

The first poster for the drama based on the 1995 novel by Pete Dexter has just been released and, as you can see, it's deliciously retro.

It shows Efron, who plays the leading man, a Miami Times reporter out to solve the mystery around the case of a death row inmate, driving a pink vintage car, sporting the dashing matinee-idol look.

Shotgun is Nicole Kidman in a very convincing blonde wig. Matthew McConaughey is seen in the background, while the lower part of the poster is a photo of John Cusack's frown / scowl.

The film went through various changes, including a complete cast overhaul, but it's still one of Efron's most anticipated releases.

Directed by Lee Daniel, “The Paperboy” will be out in theaters sometime next year.
