Apple has placed a huge event-specific banner on the front of the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. The venue will be used for the company’s press event taking place two days from now. The event, titled “It’s only rock and roll, but we like it,” was indirectly confirmed by Apple last week, when the company issued invitations to members of the media, asking them to attend.

The invitations to a “Rock and Roll” event scheduled for September 9 revealed that the show would be hosted at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco. The company continues to focus on music, iPods and iTunes in fall, in what is an annual tradition at Apple. The message on said invitations reads, “Please join us for an invitation-only event at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco on September 9 at 10:00 a.m. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. Please arrive early.” The invitations also include directions to the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.

While the entire industry is eagerly waiting for an appearance on behalf of Apple’s iconic CEO, a healthy Steve Jobs is likely not the only refresh we’ll see on Wednesday morning. The company behind the Mac operating system is widely believed to have equipped its larger iPods with cameras, while iTunes 9 is expected to launch on Wednesday with enhanced support for the likes of Facebook, and Last.fm.

iPhone OS 3.1 doesn’t rank much lower on the list of expected updates from Apple, while the confirmation of MMS support (on behalf of the iPhone maker as well) is imminent.

Probably the least probable announcement Wednesday is that of an Apple tablet, which, although likely in the works, isn’t thought to see the light of day before 2010. And, as it’s Apple’s job to cool spirits down when the media starts rattling, we can trust the company will take center stage later this week.
