“Frozen Fever” will be out in March, runs for just 7 minutes

In November last year, Idina Menzel let it slip that Disney was already working on a sequel to the 2013 monster hit “Frozen.” Because she had voiced princess Elsa in the original, no one thought they had reason to doubt her statement, so a sequel seemed a given.

Well, we have good news and bad news. The good news is that a “Frozen” follow-up is coming and will open in theaters no later than March this year. The bad news is that it’s not a sequel of the kind you were probably expecting.

To sweeten the pill, you can find the first official photos in the gallery below.

Sequel is a short film

Disney never confirmed plans for the sequel, so that should have been the first indication that there were no plans at the moment to continue Elsa and Anna’s story in another feature film.

However, that’s not to say that the studio hasn’t been paying attention to fans’ requests to bring the amazing duo back on screen. However, they (the fans) will have to settle for a short film for the time being: “Frozen Fever” runs for only 7 minutes and will screen ahead of “Cinderella” starting March 13, the studio confirms for USA Today.

It will pick up after the events in “Frozen” and aim to reveal a side of Elsa not shown in that one: now happy to not have to hide anymore, Elsa throws a birthday party for her sister Anna. Unfortunately, right before the big day, she comes down with a cold, and because she is Elsa and is special, it won’t be your run-of-the-mill cold.

Disney wouldn’t say which are its symptoms, but considering Elsa’s powers, we can all use our imagination until the release.

The gang is back and another catchy song will be released

The entire gang from the original will be back: Kristen Bell (Anna), Idina Menzel (Elsa), Olaf the snowman (Josh Gad) and Kristoff (Jonathan Groff). Also back are directing duo Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, and songwriters Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez.

The Lopezes wrote “Let It Go,” which was performed by Idina and won them an Oscar for Best Song for a Motion Picture, and which became one of the most popular and covered releases of the past year.

They believe that they have another hit like this one on their hands, with the short film. “If history is any indicator, kids will go nuts,” actor Gad says for the aforementioned media outlet.

That’s aiming very high for a 7-minute film, but we should probably not underestimate Disney and the millions of kids who must be very hyped right now about this follow-up.
