Before you get overexcited, you should know that this IS a rumor, after all and it's not at all solid, at least for now. According to Gamefront.de, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan are offering now a position of software engineer, one that will have to implement backwards compatibility for the PS3 plus a future console, not specified in the job
description.

Hold on for a sec... A future console? Is there a chance that we'll get to see a PS4 in a normal human lifetime? I thought that Sony were considering an early retirement from the gaming biz, having almost totally failed with the PS3. However, since they capitalized due to huge next-gen gaming device sales caused by the Wii shortage, they might have recovered both financially and in terms of morale. Half the good news of this piece of info is that finally we'll see backwards compatibility on the PS3, for the PS2, PS1 and PSP games.

It's a logical step to take and it should have been taken from the get-go, since there are lots of PS2 owners right now, who might consider a console upgrade in the next years, but would regret not being able to play their favorite titles any more. As for the PS4... I can only imagine bad things, if you ask me: a huge device, dangerous overheating problems, dual-layer Blu-ray disks, expensive games and peripherals, BUT, at least we've got backwards compatibility!

This mysterious console could as well be a portable one, but it would have to be some sort of laptop in order to be able to play all the PS3 beauties. One can only assume and check out rumors for now, as Sony might as well have the key to the ultimate portability and a decent screen plus CPU to be able to display the wonderful next-gen graphics.

They didn't fail with the PS3, but they sure as hell failed with the PSPgo.

They did not fail with the PS3. Only a close-bordered minded person would say crap like that, the PS# outsold the 360 in Japan and sold a fair amount around the world and will sell more as the price starts coming down more.

Personally I think that removing the EE chip out of the PS3 was the WORST thing Sony could have done.

But thanks god that the PS3 is build a crap-load better then the 360. I am still using my launch 60 gig ps3 console. I leave it on 95% of the time and hardly ever turn it off for extended periods. It's been like that for the last 2 years and 10 months and it still runs perfectly.

Where as my crapbox 360 has had to be replaced six times in two and a half years. Most of them for RROD's and once for a complete melt down of the system. The last time I replaced it M$ sent be someone elses refurbish box of s**t because I noticed the serial# was not the same.

That one broke two weeks after I got it back. I called em up and said, "hey wtf its broken already." they said " 120 bucks and we will fix it for you" so I said, "know what, f*** your pos system" and I trashed my 4th 360 (one that barely worked) and sold off my 6th one to some sorry son of a b**** with all my games for 200 bucks.

Failed? hell no, the 360 fails 40% more then the PS3, so its obvious that the 360 is the failure this war.
