There has been much talk on the illusive Motorola DROID Fighter, but the US-based handset vendor has yet to come forward with an official announcement.

However, given the strong business relationship between Motorola and Verizon Wireless, we know that the DROID Fighter will be exclusively available via the latter’s retail channels.

According to the latest hearsay, the smartphone might hit shelves at Verizon on April 12, though the release date has yet to be confirmed.

Today, the first picture of the alleged Motorola DROID Fighter has just leaked online courtesy to the folks over at Phone HK. As expected, the smartphone bears Verizon’s logo.

At first glance, Motorola DROID Fighter strongly resembles the DROID RAZR, still this one appears to boast a slightly larger display.

Rumor has it that the DROID Fighter will come at Verizon Wireless with a stunning 4.6-inch HD capacitive touchscreen display. In addition, the soft keys are not on-screen and not below the display.

Unfortunately, there are no details regarding the resolution supported, but the folks at Phone HK claim that the DROID Fighter also comes with a high-capacity 3300 mAh Li-Ion battery.

Keep in mind that this is the same type of battery included with the Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX, which is already available on the market.

For the time being, there’s no info on the phone’s software, but there’s a high chance that this would be Motorola’s first Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone launched on the market.

If not, this would be just another RAZR variant, which we doubt it will attract too many customers. Motorola already released the DROID RAZR and RAZR MAXX a few months ago in North America, so there’s little room for another similar device.

Obviously, there are no details on the phone’s price tag yet, but we can safely assume this will be priced somewhere between $249.99 and $299.99, especially if it is shipped with Ice Cream Sandwich on board.
