Microsoft used this month’s Patch Tuesday rollout to introduce the first firmware update for the Surface 2, the revamped version of its tablet released in October.

The new firmware comes with performance improvements for all Type Cover and Touch Cover versions, while also comprising camera enhancements for the new Surface model.

At the same time, it also implements audio improvements, including switching to speak playback after disconnecting a headset, according to Microsoft, as well as battery life revisions, which means that your Surface 2 tablet should now benefit from extended autonomy.

Last but not least, the device received Wi-Fi and Bluetooth driver updates to improve wireless display performance, as some users previously complained about some issues affecting wireless connectivity on the device.

The new firmware is now being delivered via Windows Update, but a separate download link will most likely be released later this month.
