Redmond is working to bring its first Microsoft Lumia handset to the market, and even though all plans are secret for the time being, Chinese media reveals new details about this project every once a while.

While some photos with the device known as RM-1090 were published yesterday, specifications of the new device were rolled out a few minutes ago, thus providing us with more details about what officially becomes the very first Microsoft Lumia device in history.

Running Windows Phone, the upcoming handheld will feature a 5-inch HD screen and will be available in a wide array of colors, including black, white, green, blue, and orange, just like all the other Nokia Lumia devices on the market.

It appears that the device will be specifically aimed at the Chinese market, so no other countries will get it, but similar Microsoft Lumia handhelds should launch in the rest of the world very soon.

Low-end device with decent specifications

In addition to the 5-inch screen, the device will also come with a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 200 chip and 1GB of RAM, enough to run most apps available in the Windows Phone Store, but also to handle the upcoming Windows Phone 10 really well.

The word is that Windows Phone 10 will run on all devices currently powered by Windows Phone 8, so the new Microsoft Lumia handset should be able to handle it quite smoothly.

A 5-megapixel rear camera plus a VGA front one will also be offered for decent photos, while the 1900mAh battery should provide enough power for approximately 2 days of medium usage.

The phone will measure 140.2×72.45×9.32mm and will have a weight of 145.7 grams, Chinese website Teena reports, while also adding that most common networks will be supported, including those with frequencies of 900MHz, 1800MHz, 850MHz, and 1900MHz.

Very cheap to compete with Android devices

Rumor has it that Microsoft is planning to make its first Lumia device very affordable, and since it’ll be aimed at the Chinese market, competing with Android smartphones in the budget sector is clearly a priority.

The very first Microsoft Lumia smartphone could hit the market with a price tag of around $100 (75 euro), but keep in mind that the company could only sell it in China for the time being.

We’re still waiting for an official announcement and more pictures from Microsoft, but judging by the amount of details that are available right now, there’s no doubt that we’re very close to the moment when Redmond will release its first own smartphone.
