Almost two weeks ago, as the world was still struggling to cope with the idea that the King of Pop had, indeed, passed away, word got out that he had two new albums in the works at the time of death. While that is still to be determined, TMZ has uncovered a previously unreleased Michael Jackson song, “A Place with No Name.”

The song has not been made available in its entirety, but even the bit that is now online is enough to make “A Place with No Name” the first posthumous Michael Jackson song. Bearing a striking similarity to the 1971 instant hit by band America “A Horse with No Name,” it is not yet certain when Michael recorded his version, or whether he had any plans of releasing it any time soon or at all.

“The song – ‘A Place with No Name’ – sounds similar to the song ‘A Horse with No Name’ released by the group America back in 1971. We’re told several years ago America’s manager gave his group’s permission for Jackson to record the song, ‘A Place with No Name’ – despite the similarity. America’s current manager, Jim Morey, who was also Michael’s manager in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, tells us, ‘The band was honored that Michael chose to do their song and they hope it becomes available for all Michael’s fans to hear.’” TMZ wrote in the post accompanying the sample of the song made available.

As we were also telling you a couple of weeks back, it was believed that Michael never actually stopped working on new music, even if not necessarily recording, despite his frail health and financial troubles. Thus, he left behind quite a considerable amount of material, both finished (recorded) and not, which will presumably see the light of day once the family settles all issues pertaining to his estate, including the many debts he had.

“He said, ‘My fans are still there. They still love me. They’re alive.’ His kids are like his first priority, and they had never seen him perform live. He was trying to create the most incredible show for his kids.” Akon said of how one of the talks with Michael Jackson went after seeing the wonderful reception “This Is It” got from fans. This ultimately pushed the King of Pop into finding motivation again, and he returned to the studio where he laid down almost two albums, Akon further explained.
