Disney releases first footage from the film, includes too little of the villain

Maleficent is one of Disney’s most frightful villains and, if done right, this brand new live-action film that comes out in May 2014, with Angelina Jolie as lead, will probably do the character justice. The first teaser for the film is included above.

Coming just hours on the heels of the release of the first official poster, the teaser includes too little of Maleficent but plenty of footage and voiceover from Sleeping Beauty Aurora – Elle Fanning doing an English accent.

Right at the beginning of the clip, we also get a clear shot at Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, Angelina’s daughter, who was cast in the movie as a substitute for Fanning for young Aurora. It’s only towards the end that Jolie makes an appearance.

Even though Disney isn’t showing us all the goods yet, this teaser works perfectly as a set up for the full length trailer, which will probably premiere in a few weeks’ time.

“Maleficent” also stars Juno Temple and Sharlto Copley, and is directed by Robert Stromberg.
