A modern preferences page for modern times

Today we take a closer look at the number one feature of the upcoming Mozilla Firefox 38.0 web browser, due for release on May 12, 2015, an all-new tab-based Preferences page that many other modern browsers already have for some time now.

The first thing you will notice when upgrading your favorite web browser to Mozilla Firefox 38.0 next week is that the old-school Preferences dialog has been replaced with a beautiful, modern tab-based Preferences page.

On this occasion, we have to admit that, while the overall look and feel of the Mozilla Firefox web browser were modernized in the last couple of releases, the Firefox Preferences dialog was the last remaining ugly component, which users actually access quite often.

All the settings are still there, but now they look great

As one might expect, all the settings are still there, but now they look great, and they're more readable and accessible. We believe that Mozilla did an excellent job of making the new Preferences page straightforward and the options easily accessible.

We've also noticed that the Tabs section has been integrated into the General tab. In addition, the "Help" button of the old Firefox Preferences dialog is now available in each section as a little orange box with a question mark on it, which, when pressed, will redirect users to the respective Wiki page of that section.

Anyone who wishes to try out the brand-new tab-based Preferences of the Firefox web browser can do so right now by switching to the Beta channel or by downloading the latest Mozilla Firefox 38.0 Beta for Linux, OS X, and Windows from Softpedia.

For those of you who prefer to wait for Mozilla Firefox 38.0 to arrive in the Stable channel but are curious to see what the tab-based Preferences page looks like, we've prepared an in-depth screenshot tour that you can enjoy below.
