The third “Transformers” film, “The Dark of the Moon,” will also be the last in the franchise, director Michael Bay has said. He also promised a film that would be more serious and better in terms of quality and, as far as the teaser trailer released is concerned, fans are probably going to get just that.
Bay announced only days ago that “The Dark of the Moon” would be in 3D, thus contradicting what he said months back about 3D being just a fad that he didn’t want to give in to.
In previous interviews, the director pointed out that both “Transformers 1” and “2” turned out less than what he expected because of rather flawed scripts. But that wouldn’t happen with the third, he said.
As The Hollywood Reporter also notes based on the first trailer for the film, it sure seems that Bay is keeping his promise to fans: instead of teasing with his now-trademark explosions, he’s giving them a healthy dose of a conspiracy theory.
The clip opens with footage (authentic and “fake”) of the lunar landing and a possible explanation for what happened during the 21 minutes when the transmission between Earth and the astronauts on the Moon lost contact.
As it turns out, during this time, they were actually executing a secret mission, which consisted of going to the dark side of the moon (the name of the film makes much sense now, does it not?) to get confirmation that “we’re not alone.”
“As far as teasers go, this is pretty cool. It looks, like all things Bay, great, and it’s a nice set up: During the moon landing, when the astronauts were on the dark side of the moon and out of communication for 21 minutes, they took off on a secret mission to a secret crashed spaceship where we see some rundown and broken giant robots,” THR says.
However, it would have been way cooler if Bay had actually done this in the first film, not in the third and last, the same report notes.
“Now, this would be great if this was a teaser for a first movie. As it stands, we’ve already seen two movies with giant robots from space so we already know we’re not alone,” THR says.
Still, this is a good teaser, the e-zine concedes. “Transformers: The Dark of the Moon” is out in July 2011. Check out the first trailer for it below and, of course, enjoy.
