Tom Hiddleston became the Internet’s favorite actor when he first appeared as the villainous Loki in the first “Thor” movie from Marvel, and his popularity has only been increasing since, thanks to his appearance in “The Avengers” and, more importantly, his superb delivery in “Thor: The Dark World.”

However, things could have played out very differently, if Marvel had so wanted. Hiddleston admitted some time ago that he auditioned for the part of Thor, which eventually went to Chris Hemsworth, but that, when he signed the contract, he really didn’t know whether he would play Thor or Loki.

For the screentest, which he did as Thor, he gained 20 pounds (9.07 kg) of muscle mass and rocked a blonde wig and, of course, got to play with the hammer. The audition will be included on the DVD of “Thor: The Dark World,” which comes out on February 25.

There is no video available yet, but we do have these two GIFs below, to offer you just a taste of how the entire “Thor” franchise could have ended up differently.

And seriously, while Hemsworth seems like a perfect fit for the role now, I have no doubt that Hiddleston would have also grown on audiences because he has the range and had definitely gotten the body for the part. Still, he’s even better as Loki because, sometimes (and this is clearly one of those cases), villains are just that much more interesting.
