Just hours after the first on-set photos of Tom Hardy in character in “Legend,” in which he plays a double role, leaked online, the first official pic for the film has been released. And it’s absolutely gorgeous.

“Legend,” written and directed by Brian Helgeland, tells the story of real-life gangsters (and twin brothers) Ronnie and Reggie Kray, who terrorized London’s East Side in the ‘50s and the ‘60s. Hardy was the director’s first choice for the role, but he was hesitant at first because he didn’t know if he was up for the challenge of playing two characters.

In the first official still, which you will find above, Hardy with glasses is Ronnie Kray. Without glasses, he’s Reggie, but chances are that, when the movie is out, we will be able to tell the difference by more than just that.

As you can see in the gallery below, for the Ronnie part, Hardy seems to be wearing some kind of face prosthetics as well, or his slightly different appearance could be the result of clever makeup and a new set of teeth. His jawline and mouth appear different.

Production on the film is now underway in Essex, and an estimated release date for the film is the second half of 2015. It’s still a long way to go until then but, hopefully, we’ll have more of these awesome photos soon.

“Legend” also stars Emily Browning, Taron Egerton, Christopher Eccleston, Tara Fitzgerald, Chazz Palminteri, and David Thewlis.
