Since before “Twilight” was over, Robert Pattinson, who played sparkly vampire Edward Cullen, started focusing on more character-driven indie dramas, in a bid to prove to the world that there was more to him than met the eye. “The Rover” is just one of those projects.

Above is the first teaser trailer for the film, directed by David Michod, who envisioned it as a “Mad Max”-type of film, only more chilling, bloodier and more dangerous.

So far, we have only had stills from the set, mostly showing a badly beaten and bruised and bloodied Pattinson getting more of the same from co-star Guy Pearce. This first teaser trailer confirms that this is indeed what is in store for Pattinson in the film.

Set in a not-so-distant future, “The Rover” tells the story of “a loner [who] tracks the gang who stole his car from a desolate town in the Australian outback with the forced assistance of a wounded guy left behind in the wake of the theft.”

It is based on a script by actor Joel Edgerton (whom I personally loved in “Warrior”), and is supposed to come out later this year. It doesn’t have a set release date just yet but, if you like what you see in the video above, check back here for more details.
