New CBS sci-fi series premieres in July, also stars Goran Visnjic

New mom Halle Berry is about to experience motherhood in an entirely different way in her new CBS sci-fi series “Extant,” which just got a first teaser trailer. As usual, you will find it embedded below.

“Extant” has Steven Spielberg as executive producer and that alone should serve as its highest recommendation. The teaser is too short to actually reveal much of the plot – or, at least, more than the official synopsis – but, for what it’s worth, it looks pretty neat.

Berry plays astronaut Molly Woods, who goes on a 13-month solo space mission but, much to her horror, “she will not return [from it] alone.” I’d wager she becomes pregnant with an alien child, even though she’s infertile.

Back home, Molly has a husband (the delicious Goran Visnjic from “ER”) and a son, who isn’t their biological child as he was “designed by his father [Visnjic] as the first prototype of a future line of ‘Humanichs,’ ‘human robots’.”

Molly’s return will have consequences that might change everything we’ve come to know about life on earth.

If that’s not enough to get hyped up about the series, here’s how CBS president Nina Tassler described it: “just the perfect melding of classic Spielberg genres: It’s science fiction and it’s family.”

“Extant” premieres on July 2.
