Says she will not fight against nature

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy says she might consider adoption if a biological pregnancy is no longer an option for her

A little over a year after marrying French President Nicolas Sarkozy, former model Carla Bruni is speaking about her desire to have more children, in the latest issue of Le Figaro newspaper. If nature will no longer allow her to have a child with Sarkozy, then adoption is also an option, Bruni says, adding that perhaps the latter is the best form of motherhood in certain respects.

Carla already has an 8-year-old son from a previous relationship, while Sarkozy himself is father of three, but that isn’t stopping the former model from dreaming of expanding the family, one way or another. When asked what she would choose between adoption and giving birth herself, Bruni said that it was not blood ties necessarily that made the mother-child relationship so strong and, in this sense, adoption was the perfect example of motherhood because the woman ended up loving the child although she did not give birth to them.

“I would very much like to have a second child, but don’t know if my age will permit me. If it isn’t biologically possible, then I’d adopt one. I’m not someone who’s obsessed by bloodline. I think you can forge a strong bond without that.” Bruni added. Moreover, speaking in more specific terms, the First Lady is positive she would have loved her son even if she had found him on her doorstep like we see in movies happen.

“If someone deposited my son Aurelian in a basket before my door like in fairytales, I’d have loved him just the same. To be someone’s mother is everyday, not just the first nine months, and it has to last an entire life. In that way, maybe adoption is the purest form of motherhood.” Carla Bruni explained. And, while she knows only too well the kind of scrutiny she and her family are exposed to on a daily basis, she would be more than happy if she could have a child right now.

“I would love to have a child [biologically] but I’m not going to fight against nature. I already have one and my husband has three, so you couldn’t say we’re in desperate need of children.” Bruni added.
