It pays to be a “Star Trek” fan these days if you live in the UK or, even better, London, because a major Trekki convention took place there this weekend. While this was happening, two very loyal fans of the franchise decided to get married in a traditional Klingon ceremony.

Check out the video below, embedded at the end of this post, to see how it went down.

This is the first Klingon wedding to take place in the UK so the two, besides being married as two of their favorite characters, have also set a new record.

What makes this an even more special occasion is that the two lovers, Jossie Sockertopp (23) and Sonnie Gustavsson (29) traveled all the way from their native Sweden for the ceremony to happen.

Unless you’re a Trekkie, it’s just one of those things that you can never fully understand.

Speaking to the press after the event, the newlyweds admitted that the idea came to them after seeing an episode of “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” in which a Klingon wedding takes place.

This could suit them too, they thought.

“We saw the clip from the series... and we thought it was very romantic about beating hearts and a battle for each other. We really liked it, that's why we want to do this,”Jossie says.

As was to be expected, both the bride and the groom wore traditional Klingon clothes, including prosthetic foreheads, bushy eyebrows and stringy hair.

They also had plenty of makeup on to resemble more the characters in the longstanding and still incredibly popular series.

The ceremony was conducted by Peter Wyllie, who also included phrases in Klingon. He says this was easier in theory than it was in practice.

“That was a bit of a challenge and I hope I got some of the sounds right. I had it written phonetically, so that made it a little easier,” he tells the press.

Congratulations to the happy (Klingon) couple!
