Michelle Williams opens up about Heath Ledger, his death and moving on past it

One of the most anticipated interviews ever just took place the other day, when Michelle Williams opened up about her late partner and former co-star Heath Ledger, who died of an accidental overdose nearly 3 years ago.

Since Heath’s death, Michelle, who also has a daughter with him, went out of her way to avoid speaking to the media about him or their relationship. If they were guarded as a couple, she was twice as guarded now that he was gone, even if they were no longer an item when it happened.

The only interviews Michelle gave since Heath’s death lightly touched on the subject on their daughter and mostly focused on her work.

The Nightline interview she did the other day – and part of which you can see embedded below – is almost the same, with a minor exception: for the first time ever, Michelle allows herself to talk a bit about Heath.

She doesn’t go into specifics, though. She says working with him on “Brokeback Mountain” was the happiest time of her life – and one can almost feel her pain at knowing she can never have that back.

She also says the worst part about Heath’s death was knowing all those wonderful options before were no longer there. She never made any sense of his death, she explains.

“In a strange way, I miss that year, because all those possibilities that existed then are gone. It didn’t seem unlikely to me that he could walk through a door or could appear behind a bush. It was a year of very magical thinking, and in some ways I’m sad to be moving further and further away from it,” Michelle says in the very emotional interview.

She remains guarded still: it’s almost as if one can feel she’s trying to open up without actually giving away too much of herself.

“I found meanings around the circumstances but the actual event itself I can’t find a… I can’t find it. I can’t find a meaning for it,” she says of learning of Heath’s death.

“I can find meanings in things and people and relationships that have sprung up and friendships that have strengthened. I found a lot of meaning in that but not in ‘why’,” the actress reveals.

In the same interview, Michelle also speaks of her latest film, for which she’s already nominated for a Golden Globe, “Blue Valentine” with Ryan Gosling. Below is the video, enjoy.
