The development team at The Creative Assembly has released the first in-game footage taken from the upcoming Total War: Rome 2, giving fans of the series and newcomers alike a taste of the game experience that they are likely to get when the game launched on the PC during 2013.

The new game in the series will focus on the Roman era, detailing the way the Mediterranean and European worlds were influenced by the rise of the new republic and then by its evolution towards empire.

The game uses the same core engine as Total War: Shogun 2 but with heavy modifications which now allow, for example, ships and land armies to be engaged in battle and controlled at the same time.

The development team also promises that Total War: Rome 2 will focus more on the great persons who defined the history of the era, from generals to political leaders, allowing the gamer to make more meaningful long-term choices.
