A team of hardware software engineers, as well as some scientists from Oxford, invented a 3D scanner last year and launched it through Kickstarter. Now, the device is almost ready to sell.

The Fuel3D team caught a nice break, when they ended up receiving four times the funding they were aiming for (just over $325,000 / €237,000 versus $75,000 / €54,892).

Then again, they were the first to promise a 3D scanner with a price of below $1,000 / €732.

Now that the project is off the ground, the retail price is $1,500 / €1,097, but MSRPs are always higher than the pledges on project-funded websites.

Game developers, animators, 3D artists, people involved in maker movements and mass personalization, all should find a good use to the Fuel3D 3D Scanner. Shipments will begin in September 2014.
