HTC and Japanese carrier KDDI have just announced the upcoming availability of the HTC J Butterfly phablet. The Android device is expected to go on sale in December and will be exclusive to Japan.

Along with the official announcement, here comes the first promo video for HTC J Butterfly. As expected, the phone’s main selling point is the huge 5.0-inch Super LCD3 capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution.

The phone is equipped with a quad-core Qualcomm APQ8064 Snapdragon S4 processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 32GB.

As with all smartphones launched in Japan, the HTC J Butterfly is waterproof (IPX5) and packs LTE and NFC (Near Field Communication). Keep in mind that this device will be shipped with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean platform out of the box.
