While HP is, in fact, one of the world's best-known and largest companies in the field of IT (they're not the numero uno computer manufacturer for nothing), its direct presence in the European retail space has been rather limited up until now, the company preferring the tried and true system of sales via various partners. However, it would seem that HP's decided that a shift in this strategy would be quite beneficial for their overall business, and thus decided to attempt a more direct approach to consumers by launching a series of Brand Stores, the first such store opening its gates in one of the biggest shopping malls in Bucharest, the capital of Romania. Given Softpedia's geographical localization, we were fortunate enough to be able to attend the opening event, thus having the chance to take a look at the world of technology HP laid before out eyes. While we won't go into too many details regarding the store's overall architecture, we will mention, however, that we really liked the fact that everything is open, built for a direct interaction between the customer and the devices on display.

The store was designed by Briggs Hillier, while all the civil work was carried out by HJ Martin, both of which are UK-based companies with a serious experience in this field. The retail space is operated together with Altex, one of the largest playes on the local consumer electronics retail market in Romania.
As for the devices...well, to put it simply, the Brand Store was filled up with the latest and best products in HP's various lineups, from the super-elegant and cool-looking ENVY notebooks (yeah, we loved them in particular, and we'll publish a detailed tale of our hands-on experience as soon as possible) to the touch-enabled Touchsmart AIO systems to the company's latest Internet-enabled printers.
Of course, there also plenty of accessories on display, including replacement cartridges for HP's printers, bags, mice, etc.
Last, but certainly not least, we'll have to mention that, despite being the first Brand Store in Europe, the Bucharest establishment won't be the last, since more such stores will be opened in Spain, the Czech Republic, Croatia and Serbia in the near future.
