Mass Effect 2 has recently been revealed as being in development, with BioWare eager to create a game that would be even more popular than the original of the series, which proved to be a big success on both the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and on the PC. It's still early in the creation cycle but at the Game Developers Conference, BioWare offered new details on the game and someone even managed to get the first footage of Mass Effect 2 in action.
Ray Muzyka, who is the leader of BioWare, has said that one of the most important things about Mass Effect 2 is the way the developers are approaching the combination of role playing game and shooter, on which BioWare is focused.
Muzyka stated that “One of them is the intensity of the action, amping that up so people will see this as a shooter RPG. It's going to feel like shooter fans are going to have a great experience.” This might mean that some fans of the role playing aspect of the game might find it a disappointment.
The initial trailer for Mass Effect 2 was a bit of a shocker, claiming that Commander Shepard, the hero of the first game, might be dead or missing. BioWare is not saying whether it will offer a whole new lead character of whether there will be a way to play as Shepard.
BioWare has always said that it plans to create a title set in the universe of the original game, while offering players more freedom to move around and more options related to developing their characters.
Here's the video shown at the Game Developers Conference. The quality is pretty bad, but that's the best we have at the moment, other than the official trailer.
