Despite being set for release a year from now, “The Expendables” is slowly but surely showing clear signs of becoming the best action movie of 2010, as well as a major hit with critics and fans alike. As a matter of fact, anticipation for this film is so impressive already that promo posters have been plastered all over Cannes, as SlashFilm can confirm.

The Cannes Film Festival, as fans must know, just started the other days and, while Stallone has nothing to do with it, posters for his upcoming film have started to pop up in most places. And they’re not small ones either, as the aforementioned movie-oriented publication points out, but rather huge, impressive banners that promise a movie as dark as it will be action-packed and adrenaline-pumping. Clearly, fans can only be pleased by this, it is being said.

Along with the posters that have surfaced at Cannes, SlashFilm also reports on the appearance of several character posters that are now making the rounds on the Internet, showing mains stars Jet Li, Jason Statham and, of course, Sylvester Stallone. Comparing them to the official materials and keeping in mind that they’re actually made from pictures we’ve already seen from the set in Brazil, it could very well be that these three so-called new posters are only fan-made. Still, even if that be the case, they do stand as proof that Sylvester Stallone can still pack a mean cinematographic punch, regardless of the fact that he’s 62.

Just recently, several official photos from the set of “The Expendables” were made public, along with details on the production and how shooting in Brazil was going. According to a post on the official website, the production did not have any significant issues, save for the presence of the paparazzi, who were so eager to get their shot they were on the verge of hurting themselves. “Then there’s the p’razzi who are literally hanging out of the trees in the mountains trying to get a shot. One guy told me he can shoot wherever he likes cause he is a photographic lawyer. I told him I was a ballerina… that’s it for now.” an excerpt from a lengthier post read.

“The Expendables” marks Stallone’s return to directing and to highly challenging action movies. It also stars Jet Li, Mickey Rourke, Danny Trejo, Dolph Lundgren, and Eric Roberts, while it also includes a cameo from Sly’s old friend, Arnold Schwarzenegger. For more details on it, keep an eye on this space.
