It’s been often said that the fashion industry is not ready to put plus-size models, which, in real life, would mean average women, on the catwalk. The New York Fashion Week will change all that.

For the first time ever, a plus-size fashion show will take place, in a bid to show once more that beauty does not know limitations such as weight and body shape, the Daily Mail informs.

OneStopPlus, a US company, has announced plans to feature a show with only plus-size models in what is the first show ever of the kind to be included in the NYC Fashion Week.

“U.S. fashion company OneStopPlus.com will showcase dozens of outfits for larger women on prominent plus-size models including Toccara Jones and Lizzie Miller,” the Mail writes.

Toccara is known for her stint on America’s Next Top Model, while Miller first gained international fame after appearing in the pages of Glamour magazine last year, in a shot that hinted that the industry was finally welcoming curves.

“The company, which carries British sizes 16 and above, said it wants to take a stand to ‘prove that curvy women are equally as beautiful and as fashionable’ as their thinner counterparts, and that New York Fashion Week was the place to do it,” the Mail further says of the initiative.

Granted, the publication further notes, the event is not related to any of the big fashion houses but the mere fact that it’s taking place is an indication that things are heading in the right direction.

“Although next week’s show is not linked to any of the major fashion houses, it is indicative of the growing prominence of plus-size models,” says the Mail.

Of course, other designers have also included one or two (or, in some very few cases, even more) plus-size models, but this is literally the first time that an entire show featuring entirely plus-size women will be included in the NYC Fashion Week.

“Several top designers, including Marc Jacobs and Prada, included fuller-figured women in their shows for autumn this year and Mark Fast used size 12 and 14 models,” says the Mail.
