A recent report informs that
FETC 2008 in Orlando this month will have educators playing the role of today's "Generation .NET" students. entering this inaugural
State Challenge Multiplayer Educational Games (MEG) Tournament. The tournament is being presented by
Tabula Digita an
educational gaming company delivering pre-algebra and
algebra software programs to K-12 schools and
districts.
As the piece informs, the competing
educators, representing their home states, will go head-to-head using their math skills to advance through timed video games. The platform, of course, will be Tabula Digita's
DimensionM Evolver Multiplayer for
Pre-Algebra and
Algebra software.
Participants will be plunged into the Meltdown universe, in which they will be following the games' storyline via a series of high-action missions, tasked with quickly demonstrating mastery of linear equations. Other games will require educators to solve puzzles, defeat enemies, or uncover mysteries by using other more different math concepts such as prime numbers and greatest common factors, variables and expression or finding, plotting and inferring coordinates. Key to progression will be navigating through numerous mathematical obstacles, competing against the other educators, and scoring the most points.
Here's how you too can become a contestant. There's a form waiting to be completed. You'll be given a special
User ID and
Password along with a download link for the game so you can
practice before entering the event. Educators can sign up at
the Tabula Digita booth (#237) where they will be given a
demo copy of the game. The first pre-registrant from each state will be entered in a draw for a $100 American Express Gift Card on Thursday, January 24th at 9AM in the Tournament Center.
He who comes out first will walk away with a site license for the DimensionM Evolver Multiplayer gaming software, while finalists will receive valuable prizes provided by contributing sponsor Houghton Mifflin Learning Technology.
